Cool Dude

This week at day care is Teacher Appreciation week and everyday is a "theme day" and the kids and the teachers are asked to wear something that goes with that theme. Monday was PJ day so we dressed him in his PJ's. Tuesday was "favorite color" day and as you probably figured his favorite color is Carolina blue, so he wore his "Little Tarheel" outfit. Today (Wed) was Hawaiian shirt day. Only some of the infants have been participating in the first two days and Sawyer was the only infant to wear a Hawaiian shirt. Good thing because there's no way the other kids could have looked as cool as he is.

Almost 9 months old

Sawyer will be 9 months old this week, but I figured I'd go ahead and post some updates. He is eating more "real food" these days. Tonight, we gave him chunks of banana, mango and avocado that he picked up to feed himself. We even let him gnaw on the banana and one time he successfully got a piece off in his mouth.

Of course he is enjoying eating food in general as you can see here

Other milestones this week include clapping. He especially likes to clap in the mornings when he first wakes up and still in his crib. He also will clap on command, which makes him fun at parties.

Another big milestone is he has said his first word which was "Ma-ma", which isn't surprising as much of a mamma's boy he is. A couple of nights ago while I was holding him, he started reaching for Jammie and said "mmma-ma". Jammie almost (that's almost) cried. (She definitely isn't a Petty). For the record, he had already said da-da, but we didn't count it because he didn't seem to be directing it at me.

Aunt Bethany and Sawyer

Due to popular demand (mainly one very persistent aunt from NC), this posting will include a picture history of Sawyer with his Aunt Bethany.

She took the first video of him in the hospital in Toledo when he was born.

Aunt "Bepany" even wrote Sawyer a book before he was born, "What My Aunt Bethany Does Best", that we try and read to him when we can.

They do not get to see each very often, but they have a good time together when they do.

This is Aunt Bethany's most favorite thing to do when she gets to see Sawyer.

He's looking forward to seeing her soon!

What's Phillip up to?

Some people have been asking me what I do at my job or what I'm going to be doing this summer. The University of Toledo school paper interviewed me recently about some of the research I've been working on lately. Its kind of a goofy article, but maybe someone will find it interesting. I'm sure I'll get some joking about this from some of you, but here's the link anyway:
